The First Weeks of The First Month

I've been pretty slack updating this blog lately. I was kinda busy with my online business. lol. So yeah, now I have the chance of writing some fresh content here, I'll take some time. I will try my best not to make this a novel. lol.

Guess what, this is my last year in Fiji. So I have to think a new blog title by next year if I'm not going back here anymore. LOL.

Ok, after going home here in Suva from our Nadi and Denarau vacation, it has been raining until like last week. Well actually, there are still some rainshowers nowadays. Anyways, Fiji has experienced the worst flooding ever recorded in its history and the current damage stands at $20M and is to exceed should the appalling conditions prevail. The worst affected areas are the Western, Central and Northern Divisions with homes, businesses, livestock and farms being under water of up to 16 feet.

The recent flooding has seen a total of 10,000 people taking shelter at various Evacuation Centers set up in the Western, Eastern and Northern Divisions. At present 114 evacuation centers have been activated sheltering the 10,000 people. The number of evacuees and evacuation centers are expected to increase as more bad weather is forecasted throughout Fiji with more rain and floods expected in the next few days.

The Fiji Government has declared a state of emergency for the Western Division for next 30 days with immediate effect. Homes have been lost and twelve people have already lost their lives in tragic circumstances trying to escape rising flood waters and through landslides.

Here are some photos of the affected areas:

We are living in Suva so we are actually safe and unaffected. I mean, it's because I mostly sleep all day or surf the net. I only feel that we are in a very bad weather when my internet connection is really sloooooow. lol. Well, thank God that's it's now over. But I really feel sorry for the victims. So, if you want to donate and help them, go http://www.vodafone.com.fj/relief/. (Oh yea, I copied the news from there too. And if you want to see more photos, just visit the site)

So yeah, going back to what's happening on my life, I'm going to the Youth Camp this weekend. YAY. My second to the last camp. Sigh. Some of my closest friends had left to go back to their homelands. But I'm sure that this camp will still be a blessing.

And oh, by the way... I had a blog makeover to my University Blog which can be found here: http://myusplife.blogspot.com/. Feel free to visit the site and tell me what you think! :)

Procrastination

We have a mid-week service every Thursday in church. So, last night, the sermon was about 'procrastination'. It hit me, like real hard. haha XD

Anyways, I consider myself one heck of a procrastinator. Now, what is a procrastinator by the way? Well, it is someone who puts things off til tomorrow when he/she can do it now. There is a mentality of delay and disorganization.

I procrastinate in a lot of things. I sleep or rest first when I don't feel like doing or finishing a thing and when it can wait til tomorrow. When our parents tell us to wash the dishes, I will say 'wait', 'hold on a sec', 'later', or in our language, 'teka lang' or 'mamaya'. I hate doing things when people tell me to do so. So, because of that, I procrastinate. haha. I know, it's a bit meanie, hard-headed and stubborn of me. But yeah. I just hate being told and I hate doing things right away. I do things immediately when there is a motivation or when it has a deadline, though. HAHA. I gotta put off procrastination, like, NOW.

OMG. I think I've been telling myself to do it since when? And until now, I still do. I think it's a human nature. If you never procrastinate, tell me, and I will applaud you. lol. Guess, all of us are procrastinators in some ways, right? hehe.

In the Christian's perspective, we procrastinate when we say like, we would read the Bible later when we can do it now. Like we would sleep or take a rest first because we are tired from work or studying before our devotion and what not. I do it sometimes. The text last night was Proverbs 24:30-34. It was a good example of procrastination.

Let us not procrastinate. The solution? Start sorting things out NOW. We need to recognize them and start dealing with them. We must show a 'determination' to sort things out. In that way, we will put off procrastination.

Benjamin Franklin once said, "Do not put off til tomorrow what you can do today." You can also read scriptures about it in the Bible, so it's also Biblical. :D

I Am A Habit

I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am completely at your command.
Half the things you do, you might just as well turn over to me,
and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly.
I am easily managed; you must merely be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done, and after a few lessons I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great men.
And, alas, of all failures as well.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine.
Plus, the intelligence of a man.
You may run me for profit, or run me for ruin; it makes no difference to me.
Take me, train me, be firm with me and I will put the world at your feet.
Be easy with me, and I will destroy you.
Who am I?

I am a HABIT!

=========================================

I remember me reciting this poem during my High School. Well, I just remembered this when I heard the preaching a while ago. The message was about Bad Habits that affect the Kingdom of God. Bad eating habits, too much internet, forever stubborn, poor time management, etc. There are the things I am most guilty of. lol. Bad habits are like bed, it's easy to get into but hard to get out of. What can I say? It speaks for itself. Yes, I have bad habits and they really affect my Christian life, not just my Christian life, but everything. We should break bad habit because we'll never be free until we despised the things around us.

All of us have habits, good and bad. Whatever it is, we should always be aware of it. As what the poem says, it could put the world on our feet or it could destroy us. How we deal with it is what matters and our future lies on it. In order to be successful in every aspect of our lives, we should break bad habits and keep the good ones.

I wanna play the guitar

Hmm. Well, I think I wanna play the guitar when my sister and I make a band in church. Not really a band, we would have a singing duet soon. lol. XD

Well, if not the guitar, I would like to learn how to play the keyboard. My childhood dream was to learn how to play the violin but what kind of songs can I play with that, right? lol.

It supposed to be a trio. My sis, another Filipino girl friend, and me. But because of devil's work, she was forbidden to attend our church ever again by her dad. Aww, man. If she can just join us, she knows how to play the guitar. No more problemo! hehe.

Anyways, about me and my sis putting up a duet, we'll see. I'm still thinking of what and how to tell Pastor. haha. We are in the back up singing roster but it's like we wanna get more exposed. *what* lol. Nah, we wanna use the singing talent God gave us. lmao. But yeah, we so wanna sing lately. We are even practicing some songs. Hillsong United! woohooo!

So there, I don't have much to write right now so that's all I wanna say. hehe.

Peace out. Sing for Jesus!

Till next time,

The Gathering of Israel, One by One

Yet the time will come when the LORD will gather them together like handpicked grain. One by one he will gather them—from the Euphrates River in the east to the Brook of Egypt in the west. [Isaiah 27:12]

Isaiah 27 foresees the exile of Israel and, beyond that, the time in which God will gather his people once again. Though they have been scattered throughout the world, the Lord will bring them back to their land and to himself.

Isaiah 27:12 employs a harvesting image. The Hebrew literally speaks of God as threshing and gleaning the grain, using a process that allowed the farmer to distinguish the grain from the chaff. The addition of the phrase “one by one” emphasizes God’s personal attention to each one of his children.

Most of us have not experienced literal exile in our lives. We live in the country of our birth and/or of our choosing. Yet the image of exile gives expression to our sense of not quite belonging to this world as it is. We yearn for the Lord and the fullness of his kingdom. We look ahead to the day when God will gather all of us into his new creation, a day when we will be truly at home with the Lord and truly united to his people.

Yet, in anticipation of that future gathering, God seeks us and brings us to himself “one by one.” God isn’t just in the business of “saving the world.” He seeks us out individually, inviting us to know him and to be part of his work of putting the world back together.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION: Have you ever experienced some sort of exile? When? How did it feel? Do you ever feel as if you don’t quite belong to this world? When? What difference does this make in your life?

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I’m struck by this image of you gathering your people “one by one.” Though you are the Creator and Sovereign of the universe, and though your plans encompass the whole earth, nevertheless you care about each individual person . . . including me.

Thank you, gracious God, for gathering me to yourself. Thank you for caring about me personally. Thank you for inviting me to have an intimate relationship with you. Thank you for the many times when you have sought me out when I was lost.

Dear Lord, may I live this day as one who has been gathered by you. May I continue in fellowship with you throughout the day, and live each moment for your kingdom and glory. Amen.

This was one of the Daily Reflection sent out from http://www.thehighcalling.org/ to my Inbox. I subscribed to it 2 months ago if I'm not mistaken. Anyways, I suggest you also subscribe to they Daily Reflection, I love it. It's always encouraging and inspiring. Maybe I should blog about it when I get a really powerful message. Or maybe a Daily Reflection here to my blog! lol

That was how I felt the moment we left the Philippines and moved here to Fiji. Even until now, I feel like an exile. I so miss my friends and my home country, the Philippines is way more 'civilized' than here in Fiji. I hope I won't be like a person who came from the mountains when I get back to Philippines. Oh, the techonology. lol! And I feel like an exile because, I sometimes feel I just couldn't mix with the people. I feel like I don't belong. But not in church, I like the people in church! Hehe. They are God's family so I love them. But aside from the church people? Nah, I'm like a total stranger here.

Speaking of exile, we all are. WE ARE PRISONERS OF SIN.

Anyways, we are citizens of Heaven, this world is just a temporary place for us. So whether I'm in the greatest nation or in Pinas, I am still a stranger. I will never be at home in this world.

We yearn for the Lord and the fullness of his kingdom. We look ahead to the day when God will gather all of us into his new creation, a day when we will be truly at home with the Lord and truly united to his people. In the end, we would all be ONE. No Americans, no British, no Fijians, no Chinese, no Filipinos, no whatever race in the world. Remember, we were separated by culture differences because people attempted to build the tower of Babylon to reach Heaven? No one can ever reach Heaven except through Jesus Christ. The hope that there will be a day when we will be truly at home with the Lord is everyone's hope dream. No more pain, sufferings, etc. We would finally be at peace. Let us all keep the faith.

The most powerful sentence I loved here in this reflection was 'He seeks us out individually, inviting us to know him and to be part of his work of putting the world back together.' Yes, as Christians, He want us to be in a relationship with our Heavenly Father. That's why He gave Jesus Christ to save us. While in other religions, people try to reach God through their rituals. Isn't it amazing that it is our God who wants to reach out for us? That's the one thing that is unique in Christianity!

And now, as the Word is being heard by more people, more and more people also become lovers of this world. People seeks security through money, earthly love, and other things that don't belong to the Lord. They can't see the real meaning of life.

I don't wanna talk about the End Times here, but Jesus Christ is really coming back soon. We'll never know when, but He will. He is now gathering Israel, one by one. Look at the world around us, it's time to wake up.

Well, it's also time for me to accept that I'm staying here in Fiji till my visa expires.... lol. I believe God put us here with a reason, and it's is His Will for us to be in this nation. I often ask 'why Fiji?'. Fiji has changed my life A LOT. And I know, I still need to learn MORE.

Till next time,

Sleep: A Necessity, Not a Luxury

I always surf the net. In fact, almost every time as long as I am awake. I even surf the net more than I study. Am I studying anyway? lol. Oh well. Maybe this is the Internet lifestyle. Internet freak! lol. XD

Mom gave me an article about Sleep: A Necessity, Not a Luxury. Yes, she printed it out. haha. She told me to read it very well. Then give it to April. lol.

Here's the news from Yahoo: http://ucash.in/2a7e598

The longer-term effects of sleep deprivation involve a person's health. Doctors have linked lack of sleep to weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, depression and substance abuse.
Okay, I get it. HAHAHA. Do I need to say more?

On the other hand, there are people who are suffering from sleep disorders. These disorders include:

  • Insomnia, an inability to go to sleep or stay asleep.
  • Sleep apnea, or breathing interruptions during sleep that cause people to wake up repeatedly.
  • Restless legs syndrome, a tingling or prickly sensation in the legs that causes a person to need to move them, interrupting sleep.
I am insomiac. I just can't go to sleep that fast. So instead of forcing myself to sleep, I just surf the net. lol. HAHAHA. OMG. I experience that Sleep Apnea thing. So, that's why! tsktsk. =|

Mom is right. I need MORE sleep!

I hope to get normal sleep very soon. Well actually, I do get around 8 hours of sleep a day naman. Just not at night. HAHA. I like sleeping in the morning till afternoon than at night. XD

I catch my friends online. Hehe. Coz Fiji is like 4 hours ahead of Phils! So yeah. And it's more quiet at night. I can study. As if. lol. And since most people are sleeping, the broadband connection is damn FAST! Hahahaha! XD

Well, I hope you guys get enough sleep though!

Last night, I really felt bad with a couple of things. I really have a lot of stuffs in my head. And it's depressing. I was really in a hell mode after the concert in church that I mis send an SMS to a friend here that's supposed to be for a friend in the Philippines. But it's ok. haha.

So yeah, I rant to her too. lmao.

I fell asleep after that. Like 11pm, which is TOO EARLY for me. HAHA!

It's too long to blog about and as of now, am not in a very nice mood to type. lol.

Anyways, am feeling better now! hihi.

Thanks, Jenni! haha.
